Some Chickens Are Smarter Than You Think

September 6th, 2008

I’ve written in the past about my two blind hens, Lulu and Henny Pen. Something really cute has been occurring. They are both blind and I have to keep them separated from the other chickens because they will be attacked. Weak or injured chickens are subject to attack by their pen mates.

Every day I take them out of their house and let them loose so they can get a sun and dirt bath and scratch around a little.

After I finish some chores I come back and put them back up. There are chicken hawks, coyotes and other predators that could easily get them if I leave them unattended too long.

Sometimes because of the area it’s hard to find them. I will call their names and Henny Pen actually comes when I call her.
This now happens every time. It’s not a food thing it’s that she hears my voice and hones in on it so she can find me.

Who’d a thunk it? She comes when she’s called better than some dogs I’ve had.

These little hens really brighten my day, I just love them.

Be safe, not sorry.

Shame On You Oprah, Your Bias Is Showing

September 6th, 2008

I could count the number of times I have watched the Oprah show on one hand. I only watch her when one of my heroes Gavin de Becker is on.

I do get that her format is directed toward women.

She has had Obama on at least twice and has stated her intentions to vote for him and actively campaigns for him.

Apparently, the question came up about having Governor Sarah Palin as a guest and she has said “no”, she doesn’t want to turn her show into a campaign platform.

Didn’t she do that with Obama?

Her audience is made up for the most part of women and I will guarantee that most women want to learn more about Governor Palin.

It is her show, but I think she is going totally against everything that made her what she is today.

But, in the end it’s her loss. Women will see Governor Palin elsewhere.

Ssssssssssssssssssssss Is That The Air Escaping From The Obama Balloon?

September 6th, 2008

My my my, how did that happen? The McCain acceptance speech had as many viewers with less stations than the annointed one Obama. Governor Palins acceptance speech had nearly as many viewers as Obama, again with several less stations. And, she’s only the VP nominee.

It seems as though Governor Palin poked a few holes in the huge Obama balloon. From his reaction to her playful, but truthful jabs it is apparent he has a “glass jaw” and can’t take the slightest criticism. This was apparent before Mrs. Palin’s speech.

He’s on the offense with the most lame retorts. He would be better off shutting his mouth. But, maybe it’s a good thing. Then people can see him for what he is without his teleprompter.

By the way, the teleprompter was not operating for a while during Mrs. Palins speech. She had no problem speaking without it and she never said “you know” even once.

You would think that a person that attended Harvard would be able to speak without so many, ands, you knows, and er a’s.

When I was interrogating people, while on the job, it used to drive me crazy when every other word was “you know”. I would say, no, I don’t know. Stop saying “you know”. Of course, these people never attended Harvard.

I find myself being totally distracted when someone keeps saying “you know” in every sentence. I start fixating on “you know” and never hear anything else.

It really is too bad that the majority of the media is in Obamas pocket. If they weren’t, people who only listen or read them, might find out the real truth about Obamas background and associations. If the other “side” had such a shady background we would never hear the end of it, in fact they would never be the nominee.

I hope and pray that the good citizens of our Country see through the “media made paper man”. This is probably the most important election to the security and safety of our Country.

Be safe, not sorry and be smart, don’t be fooled. Do some independent investigation on your own and find out the truth.

Stayin’ Safe On The Street

September 5th, 2008

Protect yourself.

Here are some tips on how to stay safe while you are on the street:

You need to stay tuned in to your surroundings and who is around you wherever you are on the street, in an office building or shopping mall, driving, waiting for a bus or a cab.
Always trust your first gut instinct. If something or someone makes you uncomfortable, avoid the person or leave.

Know the neighborhoods where you live and work. Check out the locations of police and fire stations, public telephones, hospitals, and restaurants, or stores that are open late. Always have a mental plan for escape.

At night/or on foot, stick to well-lighted, well-traveled streets. Avoid shortcuts through bushy or wooded areas, parking lots, or alleys.

Don’t flash money or other tempting targets like jewelry or clothing. Just a note: one of my dear friend’s daughter has a very generous husband who bought her a huge 8 carot diamond ring. She drives through a seedy part of Los Angeles on her way to her job. Sometimes she drives with her left hand, the one with the “rock” on it, hanging out her window. I told her if she insists on wearing that ring, to at least turn the ring so the stone is not exposed.

Carry a purse close to your body, not dangling by the straps. Put a wallet in an inside coat or front pants pocket, not a back pocket. Carry only what is necessary and try not to keep currency and credit cards all in one place. Don’t carry more than one credit card.

Don’t wear shoes or clothing that restrict your movements.

Have your car or house key in hand before you reach the door. It would be a good idea to have a keychain pepper spray or an electronic whistle on the keychain, just in case.

Try to use automated teller machines in the daytime. Have your card in hand and don’t approach the machine if you’re uneasy about people nearby. Better yet, only use the ATM machines inside of grocery store, malls, or gas stations.

If you think someone is following you, switch direction or cross the street. Walk toward an open store, restaurant, or lighted house. If someone harasses you, don’t be embarrassed. Loudly say “Leave me alone! Someone call the police! Get away!”

Here are some tips on staying safe in your car:

Keep your car in good running condition. Make sure there’s enough gas to get where you’re going and back.

Always roll up the windows and lock car doors, even if you’re coming right back. Check inside and out before getting in.

Avoid parking in isolated areas. Be especially alert in lots and underground parking garages. Use extra caution if a van is parked next to your vehicle, especially on your drivers side.

If you think someone is following you, don’t head home. Drive to the nearest police or fire station, gas station, or other open business to get help.

If all goes wrong and you are accosted by a robber, don’t resist. Give up your property. Don’t risk your life.
Report the crime to the police. Try to describe the attacker accurately. Your actions can help prevent others from being victims.

Be proactive and make your neighborhood and working place safer by reporting broken street lights, cleaning up parks and vacant lots, and lobbying local government for better lighting in public places. If the “good guys” did more of this the low life scumbags would not be taking over neighborhoods and turning them into cesspools.

Initiate a block watch program in your neighborhood by contacting your local crime prevention unit.

Be safe, not sorry.

Hey You Liberal News Folks, Keep It Up, You Are Self Destructing Before Our Very Eyes

September 5th, 2008

I really want to thank all those liberal news people for fully exposing how disgustingly evil they are. They just can’t help themselves. Attacking Governor Sarah Palin and her family is going to backfire on them. I turned them off and cancelled newspaper subscriptions to them long ago and I think more and more fair minded citizens will be doing the same.

There used to be an unwritten rule about candidates families being off limits, but there is a different set of rules if you are a Republican.

Do you think they would ever ask Ms. Clinton if Chelsey was her daughter? Some low life news people have actually asked for a DNA test on Mrs. Palin’s baby. Was Gore accused of being a bad father because his son was arrested for driving over 100 miles an hour while under the influence of drugs?

All the liberal feminists have for years claimed a woman could have a family and a career. Just not a conservative woman.

How about bringing up a 22 year old DUI incident with Mr. Palin? Does anyone speak about Obama’s admitted use of Cocaine and Marijuana? Sounds a whole lot more serious than a DUI. By the way this was before Sarah married him.

Sarah Palin is a strong woman and she will withstand the attacks. I just wonder how strong those wimpy media are?
Not really, I know what wimps and cowards they are.

I wish I was an artist because when all the libs were coming out of the their ratholes attacking her I had a mental image of an old “wonder woman” cartoon. As I recall she used to have some kind of magical bracelets that could deflect anything.

Picture this, Sarah Palin deflecting attacking cartoon images of an NBC hack, MSNBC hack, etc. etc. They would be just bouncing off her magical bracelets.

Even without the cartoon, she is doing just that.

If Sarah Palin was an incompetent there would be no need to attack her, instead they should welcome her. It is crystal clear that she is someone to be reckoned with, that is why they are so afraid of her. You libs, should be afraid, very very afraid.

Keep it up and you will be adding to the unemployment stats.

Is Your Vehicle Equipped With A Roadside Emergency Tool?

September 3rd, 2008

storm and flood safety

I was watching an old movie with John Travolta, called “Blow Out”. At the very beginning of the movie a car careened off a highway into a river. The driver was dead but his female companion was trapped in the auto. There was a space for her to breath but she couldn’t get the door or window open.

Travolta to the rescue, jumped in and at first was unable to get a door or window open. He dove back into the water and found a rock with which he was able to break the window and save the damsel in distress.

If that car had had a 4 in one auto emergency tool the damsel could have used it to break a window and exit the vehicle.

With the ongoing storms approaching the eastern half of our country, it might be a good idea to equip your vehicle with a tool such as this. It can be used like a hammer to break a window in order to escape or use the blade to cut a seat belt. It has a really bright flashlight and a blinking emergency light. It’s also water resistant. It is an inexpensive safety product that I believe every vehicle should be equipped with.

Be safe, not sorry and protect yourself or a loved one.

Parents, Does Your College Student Child Have Enough Information To Keep Him Or Her Safe?

September 1st, 2008

Self Protection Information For College Students

College has started again or will soon. As a parent do you feel you have given your college student child enough information to keep him or her safe while away at school?

Hopefully, you have. If not, it’s not too late. Here are a few basic safety tips every college student should have.

1. Dorm doors should always be kept locked when it is not occupied.

2. Keys should always be kept in a safe place. Don’t make it easy for someone to duplicate keys.

3. Always keep the blinds closed while changing clothes.

4. Avoid walking to and from classes in the evening alone. And, take special care when walking past shrubs or other great hiding places.

5. Have keys at the ready when entering vehicle. But before entering vehicle, be aware of who is around the car. If the presence of someone causes concern, either quickly get in and drive away or go back to a place of safety.

6. Never hitchhike or give rides to strangers.

7. Walk with an air of confidence, don’t look like a victim.

8. Always be aware of your surroundings and the people around you.

9. Always follow your gut instinct. If something doesn’t feel right, get away quickly.

10. While at a party, never leave your beverage unattended and don’t drink anything that will impair your judgment or ability to protect yourself.

11. Every college student should at least have an electronic personal alarm whistle or a keychain pepper spray to protect
themselves.

12. They should also know how and when they should use a personal protection product.

Be safe, not sorry.

Now That’s What I Call Change

August 29th, 2008

How Refreshing

Can’t tell you how refreshing it is to hear a politician give a speech without meaningless promises for everything under the moon. Sarah Palin actually spoke of her accomplishments, of which there are many. And, she spoke without a teleprompter. She spoke from the heart.

Here’s a politician that truly believes her role in government is to work for the people she represents, rather than working for her own political well being.

This woman’s nickname is “barracuda”. I think it should be “Wonder Woman”.

Thank you Senator McCain for an outstanding choice. Because, this is really a change for the better. She is not the same old tired class warfare promoting, pandering, ego maniac blowhard.

Though she has only been a governor for about 2 years, she has gained far more experiece in that job than either of the other two on the other side. And, she doesn’t hang out with communists, terrorists, or America haters. She loves this Country and is a champion for justice and has worked hard to eliminate corruption in her State. This truly is a blessed change.

Go McCain and Palin.

Be safe, not sorry.

Don’t Close The Barn Door After The Horse Is Out

August 28th, 2008

Be prepared for anything

I just got an order for some Mace Dog Repellent and an email from the customer. Seems she rides her bike in a kind of isolated area. She told me she was riding the other day and a large rottweiler type dog came out of nowhere and started barking and chasing her on her bike. She said she rode like hell and at one time the dog made an attempt to bite her ankle. She pulled her leg up just in time.

For some reason the dog gave up the chase. She wasn’t sure why but she kept pedaling as fast as she could in case it changed its mind and came after her again.

She said her heart was in her throat all the time because she knows the power of the jaws of this type dog. If the dog had grabbed her leg and caused her to crash the bike there is no telling what would have happened. The crash could have caused some serious injuries let alone what that dog would have done to her.

She has changed her bike riding location and will now have a dog repellent clipped to her bike in case this ever happens again.

I would say she is one lucky lady.

Be safe, not sorry.

What Are You Doing To Protect Your Vehicle Fleets From Catalytic Converter Thieves?

August 27th, 2008

Protect your vehicle fleets

The 3 precious metals contained in catalytic converters (platinum, palladium, and rhodium) are bringing out the drugged out thieves enmass. An ounce of these metals is more valuable than gold.

It takes about 14 to 15 converters to make an ounce of these metals and it only takes a thief 5 to 10 minutes to remove a converter. High profile fleet vehicles are favored by the thieves as they are easier to get under to do their dirty work. They use anything from recipricol saws to acetylene torches.

It costs the owner of the vehicles $600 to $1400 dollars per converter to replace.

A thief can get $25 to $150 per converter. Looks like the buyer is making the big bucks.

Unfortunately there are websites giving full instructions on how to steal them and where to sell them. Seems like they are kind of accomplices. Guess it depends on how they word everything.

So what’s a vehicle fleet owner to do???? It can get real pricey replacing converters. Personally, I wish there was a gadget that would explode a harmless dye on any creep trying to remove one and set up a really loud alarm at the same time.

A good surveillance system hooked up to the internet or live video might be in order. It would save the cost of having a security guard on the premises, but someone would have to monitor it so they could notify the police in the event of an occurrence.

Wouldn’t the world be a much better place without illicit drugs???????? Most of the crime we are experiencing is because some idiot experimented with a drug.

Be safe, not sorry.
