Mace Dog Repellent

This should be mandatory for every horseback rider. A recent attack on a horse and its rider in my area nearly ended in death for the horse. A pit bull mix attacked the woman and her horse on a trail in a State Park. The woman was thrown, luckily they were past the areas where there are major drop offs down the sides of the hills or it surely would have ended in death for the horse and possibly its rider. The pit bull attacked the horse and ripped its nose open and was going for its belly when the horse kicked at it and ran off. It was chased over a mile by the dog onto a busy highway. An experienced horseman stopped and was able to catch the horse before it got hit by a car. The horse has some major bites and the injury to the nose was over 6" wide and went into the nasal cavity. The horse will live if no serious infections set in but there will be some major vet bills.The State Park Ranger handling the case and the woman both say you should have a Mace dog repellent with you while riding. If she had had some she would have been able to stop the attack before the horse was injured.
